In this week’s conversation, Richard talks about one of the top agreements that he sees people make, “This is just the way I am.” He talks about the impact such agreements can have in their lives and on those around them, even sharing some of his own narrative in this area. He then shares that there is hope, however. That through Jesus, there is a way to change from the inside out.

In this week’s conversation, Richard is joined by Chris Dearborn. Chris joined the Anvil team in 2018. In this episode, Chris shares some of narrative on how he came to be a part of Anvil and the way God teed up some not so coincidental encounters and connections. Chris then shares about one of the elements of The Anvil that helps to set the stage for orienting the direction of the weekend, which is The Larger Story.

In this week’s conversation, Richard and Steve return to discuss more about The Anvil. In this discussion, they look at another key aspect that is explored during this weekend, which is Adventure. More importantly, the adventure that God has called each of us into with Him. There are the casual and crucial adventures in our lives, but what is the critical adventure of walking with God and what does that look like for men.
August 26, 2022 – Choosing Character Over Kingdom
In this week’s conversation, Richard discusses the challenge many of us face with choosing kingdom building over our own character growth and growth with God. This comes after reading about the story of King Uzziah whose pride led to his downfall in 2 Chronicles 26. The challenge to us all is pondering where we have places kingdom over character rather than character of kingdom? How well have we handled the domain we’ve been entrusted with?

In this week’s conversation, Richard is joined by team member and resident sage, Steve Robinson. In their discussion, Steve shares about coming to be a part of Anvil and they also dialogue on one of sessions Steve teaches, which focuses on identity. July 22, 2022 – Return of Firepit Coversations
After many months away, Richard returns and relaunches the Firepit Conversations. During this week’s discussion, he shares some of the reasoning he has been away, but more importantly, what God has been stirring in his heart through many of the challenges that have been faced. There is always good that God is up to. Lastly, he shares that The Anvil Men’s Boot Camp is returning for the Fall of 2022, November 10-13 in Cleveland, GA.

This week, as Richard returns to the firepit after a few months away, he extends an invitation to the Fall 2021 Anvil Men’s Boot Camp. April 30, 2021 – Is God In A Box?
This week, Richard processes some thoughts while reading through a book by Eugene Peterson and the way we tend to place limits on God through our daily lives. He leaves you with the question of, where have you boxed God in and what would it would look like to remove those limits. We have all placed limits in order to make things work out for our purposes. What would it look like to let that go and let God’s purposes work out?
April 9, 2021 – Men Are Needed
This week, Richard continues the conversation the desperate need to have men that have come alive and stepping into their true identities. For too long, we have seen men abdicate their roles and position. Men are needed in this world. Will you be among those men that choose to get in the game for the sake of your wives, your children, and those around you. If we are 90% of the problem, we are 90% of the solution. Don’t wait for someone else to do something. You step up and step in. As Tozer wrote, the most desperate need of church and world, is men; bold and free men (paraphrase).
April 2, 2021 – Mission Is Too Important
This week, Richard discusses the importance of the mission of Deep Roots through Anvil and Unveiled are. He recalls how the mission of helping men get their hearts back and come alive has been a consistent theme in his life the last 5 years and the way God continues to lead the way. March 26, 2021 – Gifts From God – Always More
This week, Richard talks about some of his experience at the Heart of Warrior Allies Advance, or now King Me Advance, this past week. Through that he shares some of the ways God really spoke into his heart when he wasn’t expecting it. March 12, 2021 – Looking Back and Looking Ahead
This week, Richard returns to the firepit after six weeks away. He discusses some of what has been transpiring around us over the last year and now. He then shifts gears to look ahead into what God is doing in the lives of men around him and some of what is to come from Deep Roots Ministries this year as we continue pressing to help people get their hearts back and come alive.
January 29, 2021 – Don’t Get Choked Out
This week, Richard returns and talks about the importance of staying firm to the hope we have in Jesus through these wild and difficult times. He reflects on a conversation with brothers this week, where they discussed the way this world is trying to choke us out like the farmer scattering seeds on thorns and weeds. Instead learn to yield those places to allow more fertile soil in the heart.
December 11, 2020 – Hope We Have
This week, Richard talks about hope and how often we place our hope in the wrong things, including the changing of the calendar. In reality, our hope should go much deeper than that because of the promised hope of the return of Jesus and the coming Kingdom.
December 4, 2020 – What is Essential: Soul Care
This week, Richard talks about the Thanksgiving holiday and the things he is thankful for. He then reflects on a conversation he had with some like-hearted men this past week talking the essential and non-essential parts of life and the frontier of moving toward doing what is essential.
November 20, 2020 – Post Anvil – Back to the World
This week, following the return the the Fall 2020 Anvil Men’s Boot Camp, Richard shares some of his thoughts on the weekend and continues his challenge to men to come alive and be the men God created them to be and the world feel the weigh of who they are.
November 6, 2020 – Looking Past the Sideshow
This week, with 1 week until Anvil, Richard discusses his thoughts regarding the sideshow that we are witnessing and then provides encouragement on what is actually the most important thing to look to and that is God. We are in the midst of God’s Story and the rest is distraction.

October 9, 2020 – Staying True to God
This week, Richard shares some of the struggles he has battled through in the past weeks, but the way God has shown up and guided him through these battles through Scripture, devotionals, and very timely and unexpected conversations. The hope is to offer encouragement of just how staying true to God and resting in Jesus is sure to bring you through, although, not always the way you expect or even may want.

September 24, 2020 – A Year of Reflection
This week, Richard reflects on the last year of life and the way God has been ever present some of the deepest challenges. From job loss to family health crisis and things in between, the prayer is that this will offer encouragement that no matter what we face, that God is ever present and we can continue to trust in His goodness.
